Therapy for healthcare professionals experiencing burnout

Patients need you. Your team needs you. The organization needs results. You get through the day, then come home with very little left for your partner, your kids, or yourself. Being the reliable one can hide just how depleted you are.

01 / CLINICAL PRESSURE

The work you carry home.

Repeated exposure to crisis, illness, suffering, and loss. The cases that stay with you, the emotional distance you need to get through a shift, and the difficulty of switching off afterward.

02 / LEADERSHIP

Responsibility in every direction.

Staffing, access, quality, patient flow, and the people behind every decision. Holding your team together while answering to a system whose demands do not stop.

03 / IDENTITY & LIFE

More than your role.

Work spilling into relationships, parenting, health, and your sense of self. Wondering whether to stay, step back, change direction, or rediscover meaning in the work.

The human cost of caring

You can care deeply about the work and be worn down by how it has to get done.

Burnout is shaped by working conditions as well as personal circumstances. We can name the constraints you are working within, the values being squeezed, and the distress of knowing what good care needs when the system cannot always provide it.

We talk honestly about the grief, anger, guilt, and exhaustion that can build up in this work. Then we sort through what you can influence, what the system needs to own, and which choices could give you some of your life back. Another self-care checklist won’t solve a staffing problem.

Clinical work meets lived leadership

I have worked inside the pressure.

I’m Andrew Richey, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and former system senior director in healthcare. I led approximately 120 professionals across nine hospitals, with responsibility for acute care management and clinical care transitions. My background also includes crisis and trauma work and leadership of trauma service lines.

I know the tension between what your team needs and what the organization expects. I understand difficult decisions, competing priorities, and the pressure to keep delivering. In our work, you get to step out of the professional performance and talk about what it is actually costing you.

Two ways to work together

Therapy for the personal impact.

When work is affecting your mood, sleep, relationships, or sense of self, we address that directly. We look at habits such as overfunctioning, guilt about boundaries, and tying your worth to being indispensable. CBT and ACT help us understand those patterns and practice choices that fit your values.

Coaching for leadership and direction.

Focused work on communication, boundaries, career decisions, and leading in a way that fits your values. Coaching is distinct from mental health treatment and is offered on a private-pay basis.

When the work involves repeated loss, grief counseling may be part of our work. If strain at home has become its own cycle, we can also discuss couples therapy.

Practical questions

A conversation without the professional performance.

Who is this work for?

Physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, healthcare professionals, and healthcare leaders or executives. We can also discuss coaching for leaders in other fields.

Do I need to be ready to leave my job?

No. We can explore how to remain in the work, change your relationship with it, or consider another direction. You do not need to arrive with a decision.

Can we talk about patients and work experiences?

Yes, while protecting patient privacy. We focus on your experience and avoid sharing names, identifying details, or confidential organizational information.

What are the rates?

Online individual therapy for clients located in Florida and Pennsylvania is $140 per session. Insurance may be available through Headway depending on plan and availability. Executive coaching is $180 per session and is not billed to insurance. We can discuss the appropriate service in a free consultation.

A place to begin

You deserve room beyond the responsibility.

You don’t need a career decision or a polished explanation. Start with what you’re tired of carrying.
